The Music Library supports research in the following disciplines: musicology, theory and analysis, composition, performance, jazz, musical theater, ethnic and world music, popular music, and folk music. The Music Library has one of the most significant music collections in the southeastern United States and includes more than 135,000 books, scores, and sound recordings, as well as extensive online collections (including access to more than 500,000 tracks of music). It is the only Library location on UVA's Lawn.
The Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library holds more than 16 million objects including manuscripts, archival records, rare books, maps, broadsides, photographs, audio and video recordings and more.
As one of the curators for Special Collections, Krystal Appiah's manages collection development for state (including the Central Virginia region) history and culture as well as African American history.
The Research Data Services + Social, Natural, Engineering Sciences team is divided into two groups. The Research Data Services (RDS) group consults with and trains researchers in acquiring, collecting, wrangling, analyzing, visualizing, sharing, and preserving research data. Our data professionals, in collaboration with our research librarians, work to advance data science, using data to answer scientific questions, making analysis reproducible, and promoting open data to enable long-term discovery and knowledge.
As Director of Content Strategy, Amber seeks to create intuitive and empowering Library experiences in online and offline environments. Working closely with the Communications and UX teams, Amber constructs and implements information architecture through navigation, site content, and back-end CMS architecture.
Amber seeks to empower Library content creators to deploy engaging and helpful material to the web, and works to meet user goals and promote Library identity through various promotional outlets like digital signage, the Library news blog, and social media.
