General information

The renovated Shannon Library opened in January, but the book move to populate new shelves is ongoing. Books that are in transit to a new space will remain available “by request” in Virgo. The book move began in December 2023 and concludes in August 2024. For questions about the book move, email

Current book move status:

  • Shannon, 5th floor: Book move is complete
  • Shannon, 4th floor: Book move is complete
    • Current periodicals: Book move is complete
    • Reference section: In progress
  • Shannon, 3rd floor: Book move is complete
  • Shannon, 2nd floor: Book move is complete
  • Shannon, 1st floor: In progress
  • Clemons, 1st floor: In progress. Many books from Clemons will move to Shannon during the process above. After this is complete, Clemons stacks will be rearranged to fit the updated collection arrangement. Clem 1 closed in March for this purpose and will re-open by fall 2024.

Book drops

The drive-up book drop in the Central Grounds parking garage was removed in December. A drive-up book drop remains at 2450 Old Ivy Rd, and a new walk-up book drop is located in Gibson Hall. See all Library locations and book drops (PDF).


Access to materials

Physical materials

The first floor of Clemons Library is closed to facilitate a large book move, but all other Library spaces are fully operational. Books that are in transit to Shannon Library or Clemons will remain available “by request” in Virgo for the duration of the move.


Digital materials

A large number of digital items remain available through Virgo: Search Virgo now.


Equipment loan

Equipment like chargers, white board markers, and bike pumps can be requested at circulation desks. A/V equipment is available through the Robertson Media Center. Learn more about equipment and tech at the Library.


Instructional and research scanning

Request items in Virgo or contact your subject liaison for assistance.


Interlibrary loan

Interlibrary loan is fully operational. Learn more about requesting interlibrary loans.


Special Collections

Staff can assist with in-person or remote research. Submit an online Reference Request or plan a visit.

The first floor of Clemons is currently closed to facilitate the book move. It will re-open before fall semester.


Study spaces

Visitors to Clemons, particularly the first floor, may see evidence of the book move through spring 2024.
