Purdue University Libraries in Negotiations with Elsevier

This past June, we alerted Elsevier that we must reduce Purdue’s total spend on publications by $1.5M.  This reduction is necessary due to the Libraries’ allocated budget and also reflects the need for more fair and equitable pricing.  Purdue pays more for Elsevier subscriptions than many of our peer institutions, and our contracts are based on a complicated and archaic pricing strategy that favors Elsevier while hurting universities like Purdue.

UT System joins Texas Library Coalition to improve access to scientific journals

The University of Texas System has joined the Texas Library Coalition for United Action (TLCUA) to rethink how university libraries collectively can improve access to faculty research and to push for changes to the costly subscription models offered by publishers of academic journals. A total of 41 institutions in Texas have now joined the Coalition – including the 14 UT institutions – making it the largest and most diverse consortia of its kind and giving it significant negotiating power.

Accessioning Archivist collaborates with colleagues within the Library and the University to ensure appropriate and timely access to primary resource materials. This position is responsible for description and facilitating access of newly acquired primary resource materials, and works closely with staff engaged in this work.
