Keep coming back: Library services for alumni and community

Nearly 8,000 students graduated from the University of Virginia earlier this month, becoming the newest members of the UVA alumni community.

We at UVA Library want to make sure all alumni (whether newly minted or seasoned) know that they still have access to numerous Library services. Alumni can work, study, or relax in all Library spaces and continue to check out books using their student/alumni ID numbers. UVA alumni also have access to several hundred databases thanks to the UVA Library, and four online research databases from EBSCO through the Office of Engagement’s Online Library for Alumni. Not an alum? No problem! 

The Library also welcomes visitors unaffiliated with the University; community patrons may borrow up to 25 items at a time, for one month apiece. To register for a UVA Library community patron card, you must be 16 years of age or older and need photo ID (you can begin the process online). In addition to borrowing privileges, community patrons can access research databases from public computer terminals within the libraries, or via the UVA Guest wireless network available at all UVA locations. For anyone interested in exploring the newly renovated Shannon Library (special shout-out to alumni returning to Grounds for Reunions this weekend), stop by and take our new self-guided tour! The tour is available through this link, or you can look for the tour sign with a QR code in Memorial Hall. UVA, FAIR, and LibraData: 10 years of making data more open

‘Find Your Joy’: Celebrating National Library Week at the UVA Library

The UVA Library is celebrating National Library Week by inviting the public to explore its diverse resources, technology, and events. To support its mission, the Library is also offering a 1:1 donation match during the week and providing contributors with a custom bookmark as a token of appreciation.
