The Albert & Shirley Small Special Collections Library offers services to University students, staff, and faculty as well as to independent researchers and the general public.
Online Reference Request
The Small Special Collections Library Reference Team offers a variety of reference help: in person, online, or on the phone. If you have a research inquiry, the first step is to fill out the reference request form.
Plan a visit
Everyone is welcome to research and explore our collections; you do not have to be affiliated with UVA. We are here to preserve and share the Library's unique primary sources for the use of UVA’s academic community as well as the general public. Learn more and plan your visit to Special Collections.
Class visits and instruction
We are delighted to provide your class with an instructional session using the wealth of materials in our Special Collections Library. Classes of all sizes should use our instruction form.
Access to born-digital & audiovisual materials
The Small Special Collections Library has developed workflows for the proper preservation of and access to born-digital and audiovisual collection materials. Learn more about access to born-digital & AV materials.
Digitization services
Special Collections offers two types of digitization services based on your research needs. Find out more about digitization services and our policies here.
Independent researchers for hire
This list of independent researchers is offered as a service to our patrons who need research work beyond the limitations of our library. All arrangements are strictly private between the patron and the independent researcher. More about independent researchers for hire.
