SCPS and distance education students living outside the Charlottesville/Albemarle area can request that books from the UVA Library or from other libraries be sent to their homes by setting up an account.
Request process
To register for an account:
- Sign in to your VIRGO account using your Netbadge credentials. You will be prompted to create an account if this is your first use. (Check out our tutorial for step-by-step instructions.)
- On the New User Registration page, choose 'Distance Education Student/SCPS' as your status type
To request UVA materials from Virgo:
- To request a book, visit the Virgo catalog to search for your material.
- After viewing the details of your selection, click 'Request item'. You will be prompted to sign in or create an account, if you haven't already. Select 'LEO delivery to my department' and then click Place Hold.
To request materials not owned by the UVA Library:
- Sign in to your VIRGO account using your Netbadge credentials.
- From My Account, select the Requests option then choose the appropriate request type from the Make a New Request section. Fill in as much information as you have available to ensure we borrow the correct item. (Be sure to hit the Submit button at the bottom.)
- Requests for materials from other institutions are usually filled in 3-10 working days.
If you live outside the Charlottesville/Albemarle County area, please read instructions at the bottom of the ILLiad account registration form under Users who live outside Charlottesville /Albemarle County area. Also, please be sure to list a “secure” address, where packages of books may be left if you’re not home.
If you live inside the Charlottesville/Albemarle County area, you will need an account to request books from other libraries, or to request books listed in VIRGO with an Ivy Stacks location. However, you are not eligible for our delivery service and will need to pick your books up from a UVA Library.
Delivery address
Please ensure that your address in the ILS system is current and correct. Your ILliad account is separate from your regular Library/Virgo account, and your address must be updated manually. If items are sent to an old or incorrect address, you are still responsible for these items. If they are irretrievable, then you will be billed for them.
Delivery of material
Chapters/articles will be delivered via e-mail in PDF format.
Books will be delivered to you via UPS.
Return process
When you are ready to return the items, you may print out the Library's return mailing label that was emailed to you, attach it to the package, and return via the U.S. Postal Service.
