Planning a live event: Online or in person (Narrative step-by-step)

  1. Start: invite accommodation requests.
    • Did you receive accommodation requests?
      • If yes, professional captions were requested: Contact a vendor, or contact the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Coordinator at captioning@virginia.edu to set up professional services. For academic courses, the Coordinator can help set up services for the duration of the course. Continue to step #2.
      • If no: Continue to step #2.
  2. Will you event take place online?
  3. Will the event be recorded and made public?

Post-production: Captioning that occurs after an event is recorded (narrative step-by-step)

  1. Start: Will this recording be made available to the public?
    • If yes: Captions and transcript are required for any recordings made available to the public. You can make them yourself, or hire a vendor. (End of process.)
    • If no: Continue to Step #2.
