To celebrate this month, we’re recommending a few books and films that highlight different aspects of the Hispanic/Latino experience. Authors and artists include Isabel Allende, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Julio Torres.
‘The Surprising Story of Furcy Madeleine’: New exhibition in Shannon Library explores the contradictions of slavery and freedom during the Age of Revolution
Historian Sue Peabody will speak at the exhibition’s opening reception on Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in Shannon Library, Room 330.
Film uses UVA archive to illuminate the life of cartoonist Patrick Oliphant
“A Savage Art: The Life & Cartoons of Pat Oliphant” features archival footage and hundreds of Oliphant works from the archive, which is housed in UVA's Special Collections. You can see the film at Violet Crown through September 18.
