Self-guided Library tours

Visitors are welcome in Library spaces at any time during hours of operation. The Library offers a few resources to help you along the way:

Request a tour guide

Visitors can request guided tours ahead of time, if you’d like to have a tour guide during your visit. Tours are conducted by Library staff. Note that some tours are limited to certain days and times. Learn more and request a guided tour.

Self-guided thematic tours

Self-service thematic tours are available for interested visitors:

  • Green Building Tour: The Edgar Shannon Library (PDF) — Shannon Library is a LEED Gold-certified building, promoting excellence in energy efficiency and sustainability. Take this self-guided tour to learn more. This tour is in-person, either use the pdf at the link or pick up a Green Building Tour guide at one of the Service & Information Desks. The tour will guide you through stops featuring panels describing the building's sustainability features.
  • Enslaved African Americans at UVA — Explore the history of enslaved African Americans at UVA through places, people, and events. Although this tour was set up as a walking tour, it can be taken from anywhere on a phone, tablet, or computer.
