ORCID at UVA

An ORCID iD is a unique researcher identifier, used worldwide, that you can keep throughout your life and retain even if you move institutions. Short for Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier, it distinguishes you from other researchers, even if they have the same name, and enables authoritative links to be created between you and your research activities.

Manage your ORCID

UVA Library has built the UVA-ORCID Connector service, which allows you to connect your ID and register your UVA affiliation. When you connect your ORCID iD to UVA, you authorize display and use of your ORCID in the University of Virginia’s systems. Connecting your ORCID iD to UVA allows works you deposit in LibraOpen and LibraETD to be added automatically to your ORCID record.

Visit the UVA-ORCID Connector to create or connect an iD and to authorize the display and use of your ORCID in the University of Virginia’s systems.

Note that:

  • Your iD can be connected to an institution only with your direct permission.
  • You may remove the institution connection to your iD at any time.
  • You may change visibility, share, or remove information, such as scholarship works in your ORCID record at any time.
  • You can add more identifying information to your ORCID record at any time.

To learn more about ORCID and how to populate and use your ORCID record, please check out the UVA ORCID guide or contact the Scholarly Communications Services Team at libra@virginia.edu

Connecting Your ORCID iD to UVA:

  • Your ORCID iD will show on on each LibraETD or LibraOpen work for which you are an author or co-author
  • Allows LibraOpen and LibraETD to add and update metadata of works deposited in Libra on your ORCID record.
  • Adds an employment entry and/or education entry on your ORCID record.
